DERUTA: CERAMICSITINERARY

In the city of Deruta you can find examples of his art can be seen in his churches, the facades of his palaces and in the Ceramics Museum.

The hills around Deruta divide the Tiber valley from and the Umbria valley. Thanks to its natural feature, made up of streams and steep gullies and clay deposits, the area provided the premises with the raw material used in the production of ceramics.

You will be in the exact middle of the “Colli Perugini” valley, along a wine route called “Strada del Cantico”. From the colors of Giotto to the flavors of Umbria, from the glimpses of cities of art to the ancient villages between scenic roads, from the cellars with their smell or the wet land of the places that testify to the life of famous saints, the “Strada del Cantico” crosses the municipalities of Todi, Marsciano, Perugia, Torgiano, Cannara, Spello and Assisia. On request you can participate in a ceramic lesson and experience the production phases, from the work on the lathe to the final enamelling and cooking process.

After a brief explanation and an expert lathe work exhibition, you will create your own lathe article. You can decide where to take it home as fresh clay in a suitable container.

EXCURSION ON THE PRODUCTION OF SAFFRON: CITTA ‘DI PIEVE AND CORCIANO

A stop will be the city of Pieve. It was inhabited by the Etruscan people and later the seat of an important early medieval church site. Furthermore, it is the birthplace of Pietro Vannucci, the Renaissance painter better known as “Il Perugino”. Free time to admire some of Perugino’s masterpieces, such as the Adoration of the Magi in the Oratorio dei Bianchi and other works in the Cathedral and in the Church of San Pietro, where the artist left a dramatic Deposition dating back

the last years of his activity.

You will also like to enter Vicolo Baciadonne, the “alley of the woman’s kiss”, one of the narrowest streets in Italy. Città della Pieve is also a land of pure saffron.

This spice, with its intense flavor and aroma, is attested in ancient manuscripts since the thirteenth century, describing the plantations of Crocus in the fields of Castel della Pieve (Città della Pieve).

For food lovers, a saffron tasting is a must!

After lunch (not included in the price), continue your trip to Corciano, a city rich in history and rich in works of art, located halfway between Perugia and Lake Trasimeno, on top of a hill overlooking the valley .

It is a city of narrow streets, stairs, palaces, towers, gardens, churches and bell towers, all set in an intact medieval allure setting.

Discover the historic center with the tower of Porta Santa Maria, the main Piazza Coragino, the church of Santa Maria Assun ta, which houses a painting of Il Perugino entitled Assunta (1513) and the church-museum of San Francesco in Gothic style, below on which floor there are 21 family tombs closed with stone slabs that bear the heraldic shields of the most important families in the city.
