Day 1

Arrival in BARI. Afternoon dedicated to visiting the city with local guide - visit lasts about 3 hours Meeting at 15.00 at the Norman-Swabian Castle, Via Pier l'Eremita, 25 / b (sea side) Of great interest is the visit to Bari Vecchia (Borgo Antico): the Basilica of San Nicola, dating from the 11th-12th century and dedicated to Nicolas Bishop (a miraculous saint whose remains were stolen by Mira). One of the most loved saints in the world and father of the legend of Santa Claus. The Basilica of San Nicola in Puglia is the greatest example of Romanesque architecture. Inside the church there is an episcopal chair of great value by Elia, entirely made of marble. The twelfth century and the crypt where the remains of San Nicola are kept. The Cathedral of San Sabino, however, is today the result of numerous restorations made over the years, but the original core of the Byzantine period has been preserved. The Swabian castle, whose oldest part dates back to the 13th century, now houses some offices of the superintendent. "Arco Alto and Arco Basso" where there are some elderly ladies who produce and sell orecchiette (typical homemade pasta). Day 2

OSTUNI visit of the "white city" + light lunch

Breakfast at the hotel at 8.00. Departure at 8.30 am with own vehicles for Ostuni (from Alberobello about 40 km) Appointment at 10.00 with the local guide in via ANTONIO SPECCHIA, inside the parking lot (under the payment sign) for visiting the city. (the visit lasts about 2.30) The city of Ostuni is built on three hills and is known as "The White City" because of its white houses. The guided tour will wind through the white terraced houses with courtyards, narrow streets and steep stairs leading to the fifteenth-century cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. The old city is surrounded by Aragonese walls reinforced by towers and gates. To admire in particular the eighteenth column of San Oronzo, the Church of San Francesco d'Assisi, the San Giacomo di Compostela and Santa Maria della Stella. Since 1793, the Cavalcata di Sant'Oronzo takes place every year on August 26, in honor of the patron saint. At the end of the tour light lunch Free afternoon: return to the Resort in Alberobello. Overnight Duration: 6 hours 

Day 3

GALLIPOLI guided tour + light lunch

At 7.00 Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Gallipoli at 8.00 am (105 km) Meeting at 10.00 am with a tour guide (duration of visit about 2.30) at the port area (meeting in the harbor parking lot). The visit in succession to the Greek fountain presents 4 caryatids that support the architrave and were inspired by the classical architecture of ancient Greece, the chapel of Santa Cristina, the Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Canneto, the Castle, the Palazzo Balsamo, the Cathedral of Sant 'Agata (which was martyred in the Sicilian city of Catania, but whose relics are housed in Gallipoli) located along the main axis of the old village, via Antonietta De Pace. The tour ends with a tour of the splendid churches belonging to the local fraternities along the Riviera. Day 4

LECCE + tasting of the "pasticciotto" and visit to the mache paper workshop

At 7.00 Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Lecce at 8.00 am (100 km) Meeting at 10.00 am with a tour guide (duration of visit about 2.30) at Porta Napoli The Florence of Southern Italy; The route starts from Porta Rudiae (one of the three gates to the ancient city of Lecce) and visits the Church of San Giovanni Battista or del Rosario. Visit the Church of Santa Teresa (where there is a large statue of San Oronzo, the patron saint of the city, entirely in papier-mâché); Visit to the bishop's courtyard to admire the Cathedral of Lecce, the Bishop's Palace, the Seminary and the high bell tower which also served as a watchtower given the proximity as the crow flies to the Adriatic and the constant threat of Turkish pirates; Continue the walk along the streets where you can admire the beautiful 16th century civil construction built entirely of local stone or "leccisu" and interspersed with wrought iron balconies on the chest. You get to Piazza Sant'Oronzo also known as "the merchants square" to admire the statue of the saint placed on a Roman base, the "Seat" (the old town hall), the church of San Marco, the Roman Amphitheater, Roman Theater , the "elliptical church" of San Matteo, the church of Santa Chiara with an entirely papier-mâché ceiling, the Castle of Charles V. The Basilica of Santa Croce a jewel of the Lecce Baroque. Visit to a papier-mâché laboratory in Lecce with a local craftsman to understand the technique of making these artifacts. During the tour, tasting of "pasticciotto", a typical baked cake made with pasta and cream. Free afternoon and return to the hotel Duration: 8 hours

MATERA alone
