ITINERARY

1st day: Individual arrival in Matera

2nd day: Matera – Alberobello 76 km

Cycling through the southern part of the Murgia, with its wonderful colors, after about 70 km, you reach Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a city known worldwide for its typical white houses with cone-shaped roofs .

3rd day: Alberobello – Locorotondo – Cisternino – Ostuni 52 km

Today you are in the Itria Valley. Ride through the beautiful villages of Locorotondo and Cisternino. We advise you to stop for lunch in a typical butcher shop with a ‘ready stove’, where you can choose the meat you want to eat and have it cooked on the spot. Final destination of the stage: Ostuni, the white city, where it is possible to visit its white houses and the Mother Church on the highest point of the city.

4th day: Ostuni – Lecce by train – free day.

Departure in the morning from Ostuni railway station towards Lecce (travel time 55 minutes, cost 5.50 Euros not included – bicycles travel free on regional trains). Free afternoon to visit the splendid Baroque city; get lost among its splendid buildings and don’t forget to visit the cathedral and its square, the church of Santa Croce and the amphitheater.

5th day: Lecce – Otranto 57 km approx.

We ride through the Salento countryside; after about 10 km you reach the historic stronghold of Acaya, after a short stop to visit the castle and the city, you cycle towards the Adriatic coast and the seaside resort of Torre dell ‘Orso, where you can relax on the beach and take a bath . In the afternoon, skirting the Alimini Lakes you will arrive in Otranto.

6th day: Otranto – Gallipoli km 65 approx.

Today we pass from the Adriatic coast to the Ionian coast, passing through the cities of Melpignano, a typical town of Salento, home of the ‘Notte della Taranta’, traditional music festival: ‘la pizziza’, and Corigliano d’Otranto with its splendid castle, city where the ancient griko is still spoken ‘. You will reach Gallipoli, about 50 km away, in the late afternoon. You will have time for a drink at sunset in one of the many bars in the historic center overlooking the sea. You can, of course, take a walk in the evening through the typical streets of the historic center.

7th day: Gallipoli – Lecce about 58 km

After passing through the city of Galatone to visit the Sanctuary of the Crucifix cycle, cycle towards Galatina, where we recommend you visit the Baroque Mother Church and the Basilica of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, with its 15th century frescoes.
